Crossroads Initiative

The Crossroads Initiative looks to strengthen and enhance connections to and from the newly created Rose Kennedy Greenway. It aims to create engaging pedestrian spaces and gateways, improve bicycle access, and better knit the city, the Greenway, and the harbor together.

Streets included in the Crossroads Initiative are: Causeway, New Chardon, Salem, Hanover, State, Broad, Oliver, Congress, Summer, Essex, Beach, and Kneeland.

In Spring 2009, construction will begin on the the first of these streets: Broad St. In January 2009, there will be public meeting to discuss the 25% design plans for the next two streets: Congress St and Summer St in the Seaport District. An overview of the plans for Broad St, Congress St, and Summer St can be found on the BRA Planning Initiatives site.

LivableStreets is communicating ideas and suggestions for the project to city staff, and will continue to do so as the various streets are designed. We are also meeting with partner advocacy organizations to discuss design ideas and build consensus.

Our goal is to ensure that the designs best serve all users to the fullest extent, resulting in streets that are pleasant to both travel to and through.
