Anderson Memorial Bridge

Anderson Memorial Bridge
About the Project
As part of the Accelerated Bridge Program, MassDOT will be reconstructing the Anderson Memorial Bridge (between N Harvard St, Allston and JFK St, Cambridge) starting in 2010. This will include rehabilitating the structure of the bridge and improvements to the intersections on either end. MassDOT announced that improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians will be a part of this project, including the addition of bike lanes across the bridge (by converting the current 4-lane cross-section to a 3-lane cross-section) and geometric improvements for pedestrians at the intersections.

LivableStreets' Efforts
LivableStreets has been working with MassDOT and other advocates to ensure that the project addresses many of the existing issues across the bridge and at the surrounding intersections, particularly the poor crossings of the Charles River Paths, lack of bike lanes across the bridge, and dangerous pedestrian crossings, particularly on the Boston side at the intersection with Soldiers Field Rd.
