Cascieri 14: Lectureship in the Humanities
Paolo Soleri - Thursday, April 20, 2006
The Architecture of Place, The Place of Architecture
Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 7:30 pm in Cascieri Hall.

Architect philosopher Paolo Soleri will deliver the Boston Architectural Centers 2006 Cascieri 14 Lectureship in the Humanities.

Soleri's concept of Arcology: joining architecture and ecology to create an integral whole is at the core of a body of work and thought that spans sixty years, work that has developed over a lifetime of committed exploration and witness. Through drawing, writing, building, provoking, Paolo Soleri has constantly sought to create a rational sense of place and meaningful architecture by applying ecological principles to the design lf building and cities.

Paolo Soleri's latest project proposes a quantum jump across climate zones, across international boundaries and across cultures. His "Lean Linear City" is meant to provide urban design solutions for up to on-fifth of the population of China, clarifying and amplifying people's relationships to each other and their ecology. Soleri has just returned from that country, where he key-noted conferences in Suzhou and Shanghai speaking to audiences who are playing crucial roles in sustainable global urbanization.

Soleri's three-dimensional understanding of place and city and planet will inform his talks at the BAC.

Public welcome, however space is limited.
