For the past 5 to 10 years, Smart Growth and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) have been emphasized as a way to improve our transportation system. With a number of projects now built, and more in the planning or concept stages, can we definitively say that these projects have been effective and successful? What lessons have engineers and project proponents learned that they can use to design fundable projects their communities will embrace as an asset, while reducing overall traffic demands and congestion and increasing transit usage? Our panel – including City of Somerville OSPCD Director Monica Lamboy, prominent local developer Ted Tye, and Mark Boyle from MassDOT’s transit – will address these and other relevant issues.
